Amazon to come out with in-house beauty brands

First it was Flipkart-owned Myntra, and now it is Amazon India.

The e-commerce giant is preparing to launch in-house beauty and personal care brands, keeping in view the fast-growing cosmetics market of India.

Presently, Amazon India is in talks with contract manufacturers and will soon be launching private labels in categories such as skincare and make-up.

Both Amazon India and Flipkart have sharpened their focus on the high-margin cosmetics and skincare category as growth in the much bigger category of apparels is decelerating.

As of now, Amazon India is retailing 2 million beauty products across 19,000 brands.

As for Myntra, it is expected to launch its beauty and personal care brands this year. It will also be retailing in offline stores in collaborations with international brands.

Incidentally, e-commerce has become the fastest-growing channel in terms of revenues for beauty brands such as Maybelline, Lakme and VLCC.

So, ladies, keep an eye out for Amazon’s offerings. They might turn out to be just the thing you need.
