Are your feet killing you? You need to take care of them

Just as they do with hands, people tend to take their feet for granted. Feet are the most abused and used parts of the body, what with all the walking, running and climbing that you do every day. Even when it comes to beauty regimens, we tend to ignore our feet. Just putting on a coat of nail polish does not mean you have taken care of your feet. But it is very important to keep your feet and toenails in good condition. You need to have good foot hygiene.

Here is how to take care of your feet:

  • Wash your feet daily

Even if you are very tired, make sure you wash your feet at the end of the day, especially if you have gone out during the day. Feet gather all kinds of dirt, germs and bacteria as they are in close contact with the ground. And the roads are full of all kinds of dirt. So, make sure you wash your feet carefully, and then dry them properly. It is better if you use a good anti-bacterial soap on your feet, which is different from the soap you use for the rest of your body.

  • Moisturize your feet daily

Feet can get very dry with all the washing and scrubbing. You need to replenish the lost moisture every day. Use a good quality moisturizer and rub your feet thoroughly with it before going to bed. You can pat them dry to absorb the excess after 20 minutes with a soft towel if you don’t like the damp feeling.

  • Wear the right footwear

It is more important to keep you feet in good health than to make them look sexy in high heels. High heels and stilettos put pressure on your feet and back. Moreover, the foot is placed at an unnatural angle when you wear high heels. So, reserve the high heels for special occasions only. Wear airy, comfortable footwear if you are going to be out for a while. Besides, it is important to dry your closed shoes before wearing them again.

  • Keep your feet dry

Many times we wash our feet when they get dirty, or when we spill something on them, but we do not take the trouble of drying them. Moist, damp feet can attract all kinds of bacteria, which can cause odours and foot fungus. So, dry your feet carefully, and make sure to dry between toes as well.

  • Give yourself a pedicure

It is good to pamper your feet once in a while. Give your feet a pedicure, soak them in warm water for half an hour, rub the soles with a pumice stone to remove dry skin and dead cells, then dry your feet and apply a generous quantity of moisturizer.
