Do you have dry skin? Here are a few remedies

All of us suffer from dry skin now and then. Winters are particularly harsh on the skin, as is a dry hot weather. Too much AC, dry winds, dry weather – all of these can make your skin go dry. Dry skin can itch, flake, crack, and dry lips can bleed. To help heal dry skin and prevent its return, you have to follow a proper regimen. But remember, as the seasons change, so should your skin care routine.

Here are a few tips to help you deal with dry skin.

1) Do not stay too long in the shower

When you take a bath for too long, you are exposing your skin to more and more moisture loss. Close the bathroom door when having a bath and limit your time in the shower or bath to about 10 minutes. Moreover, use warm water rather than hot water. And use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser. Do not overdo soaps and shampoos.

2) Use a body lotion immediately after a bath

Dry your body quickly after a bath and use a body lotion immediately. A bath makes you lose a lot of moisture and it is important to replenish it with a good body lotion. Moisturizers work by trapping existing moisture in your skin.

Each time you wash your hands or your face, use some body lotion right away.

3) Go for creams with more emollients

If your skin is too dry, you need an ointment or cream rather than a lotion. Use a cream or ointment that contains more emollients. A rich lotion or cream with oils, such as olive oil or jojoba oil, will work well. Shea butter lotions are also very good for dry skin. Look for lactic acid, urea, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, glycerin, lanolin, mineral oil, etc, while buying a lotion or a cream. Use only gentle, unscented skin care products. Some skin care products are too harsh for dry, sensitive skin.

4) Wear lip balm

Taking care of your dry skin means you have to take care of your dry lips as well. Choose a lip balm that is rich and creamy, but not too oily. It should stay on your lips for a while. Try lip balms with shea butter.

5) Avoid deodorant soaps and products with alcohol

It is best to stop using deodorant soaps, deodorants and sprays, products with alcohol, products with fragrances, etc. All these things dry your skin, making the problem worse. And remember, drink plenty of water. Treating dry skin is more effective when you start from within.
