Have you tried charcoal purifying face masks?

Charcoal purifying face masks are not that big in India, but they are all the rage in the West. However, they are available, especially online. A charcoal mask is all about unclogging your pores and cleaning out environmental pollutants, oil, and dirt from the skin. Charcoal is especially good for people with acne and blackheads as it can help reduce excess oil.

Are they safe?

Charcoal masks can be a bit drying. The can also irritate your skin as they strip off the protective layer of oil from your face. Besides, they are not very easy to apply as they have a thick consistency. Removing the mask (if it is a peel-off variety) is also quite a task. In fact, it can be pretty painful. It sticks like crazy to your skin, and when you peel it off, it can hurt. It is like waxing your face. That hurts, right? If you have sensitive skin, your face could get all blotchy and red after use of a charcoal mask.

The best way to use charcoal masks

But charcoal masks do clean out the skin better than most face packs. The thing to do is to take a few precautions while using them.

  • First off, exfoliate your face before you use the mask. This will get rid of the surface pollutants and dead skin.
  • The next thing to do is to use a good quality mask. Apply the recommended amount and keep it on for the recommended time. Do not let it over-stay on your face. Ten minutes should be enough.
  • After you remove the mask, gently massage your face with warm coconut oil or almond oil. This will ensure that your face does not dry up. It will also replenish the essential oils that you lose by applying the mask.

Your face will be a little sensitive for a while, in spite of all the precautions you take. Don’t worry, it will get back to normal soon. Plus, you will have a REALLY clean face.
