How to make your makeup last this Diwali

Ladies, are you ready for the big night? Yes, the Diwali countdown has begun, and the fun is about to begin. Your outfit is ready, your accessories all lined up, you have practiced your fancy hairstyle and nothing more needs to be done.

But wait a minute – you do know, don’t you, that while Diwali is a night festival and the party will be in the evening, you might be going to some gig in the day as well. What if you don’t get the time to apply fresh makeup? What if all you can manage is a touch-up before you dash off to the next venue? Don’t panic – the trick lies in making your makeup last for a quite a while.

Try these simple tricks to keep your perfect look in place.

  • Prep your skin

No matter how good a product you use, if your skin is not prepped, your makeup will not have that lasting quality. You need proper skincare for the makeup to give you the finished look. Follow the steps listed below for a great look.

Exfoliate: Excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells end up right on the surface level of your skin, causing it to look dull and have a peculiar texture. It will show up when you apply makeup. The thing to do is to exfoliate your face thoroughly so as to deep-clean your skin.

Tone: Your skin has a pH of 5.5, making it slightly acidic. But even mild soaps and facewashes have a pH of 9.5, which makes them alkaline in nature. When you use face and body cleansers that are alkaline, you upset this natural balance, and it takes your skin up to 12 hours to recoup. Use a toner after cleansing and exfoliating; it will balance out the pH of your skin for a smoother and brighter appearance. Toners also help complexion products stay on longer, giving you a smoother look.

Moisturize: Before applying your makeup, use an oil-free moisturizer that will provide a perfect canvas for your complexion care products.

  • Use a primer

A face primer helps to make the skin smoother and more even by filling in fine lines and pores. It prepares the skin for the foundation, and also helps it to stay on a lot longer. A good face primer should hydrate dry skin, and have oil and shine control features for oily skin. Try to get an oil-free, water-based primer; this will help your foundation from slipping or moving around. Use a primer for your eyes as well.

  • Use an oil-free foundation

Oil-based products are more likely to result in your makeup sliding out of place. If you have dry skin, make sure you moisturize thoroughly before using an oil-free foundation.

  • Wear water-proof mascara and eye liner

Go for water-proof mascara and eyeliners to make sure your eyes stay smudge-free all day long. Mascaras and eyeliners tend to smudge under the eyes after a while; they also tend to collect in the corners of your eyes. Keep tissues handy to clear out the deposit.

  • Use lipstick the right way

Lipstick tends to bleed into the tiny cracks of your skin near the lips after a few hours. Use lipstick the right way if you want it to last for a really long time. Apply the first coat, blot it using a tissue paper, dust some fine translucent powder on your lips, and then apply a second coat of lipstick. Finish off with some shimmer.

There now, you are ready for the day – and the night.
