Make-up-trends at Delhi-couture-week

Couture shows are more exclusive than ready-to-wear, so are  the make-up trends to mirror that. It’s about deeper colours, more luxurious, more red-carpet, more autumn-winter than spring-summer. In India, a lot of couture is in fact bridal wear, so again, the make-up is more elaborate.

“This year at Delhi Couture Week none of the make-up was over the top. The designers were very mature about the looks of their shows- they didn’t try to overdo each other with bigger hair and elaborate make-up. It was quite simple,”  says make-up magician Mickey contractor on couture week.

M.A.C Cosmetics is  the official makeup partner at the Delhi Couture Week and has worked backstage with designers including Varun Bahl, Gaurav Gupta, Anamika Khanna, Anju Modi, Manish Arora, Manav Gangwani, Shantanu and Nikhil,  J J Valaya, Ashima-Leena, Manish Malhotra, and Sabyasachi . M.A.C has a team of top-tier makeup artists headed by Mickey Contractor, Director of Makeup Artistry India and Sonic Sarwate Senior Artist–India.
JJ Vallaya’s stuck to his evergreen bridal attires which would be as relevant in 17th century as they are today. Inspired by the opulence of the Ottoman empire every single piece of garment can be passed on to the next generation as a family heirloom.

Annamika Khanna’s collection at Delhi Couture Week was all things sophis and so was the look that M.A.C created for the show. The look at Delhi Couture Week was strong and dramatic. Anamika’s look was super sexy. We decided to play up only one feature and the eyes took the centre stage. The rest of the face was just sculpted. The eyes were smouldering, very smokey and also elongated.

Key makeup artist Mickey Contractor, whose M.A.C director of artistry India, told us, “This look is a tweaked Smokey eye that’s graphic with an extremely high arched dark brow.”

The skin has a three studio moisture cream face and select moisture cover loose powder. The eyes are a cream colour base in tint all over the lid as a base, fluid line in blacktrack smudged on the lid and eye shadow in carbon worked into the brow from the inner eye and studio.

There is a fix powder on the brow bone brows and fluidine in blacktrack to create highly arched strong brows. The cheeks have a studio fix powder in a dark colour to contour. The lips erase in dim

Varun Bahl’s look was custom, created by Micky Contractor and focused on double winged eyeliner and bold red lips.

Manish Malhotra’s collection from DCW  comprised bright corals and reds. Plus the eye makeup look was beautiful, subtle smokey and very wearable.

Sabyasachi’s show at Delhi Couture Week recently had a really clean look. He doesn’t follow trends for the sake of it and his hair and make-up are always so simple, taking away no attention from his clothes. Just a small bindi, glasses and sometimes hairbands.
