Lakme fashion week Winter/Festive 2017 day 1: highlights

Well, the Lakme Fashion Week winter/festive 2017 have begun yesterday and we can’t stop thinking about the some of the best designs from day 1 of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017. Most of these designs are so breezy that they make for perfect everyday wear.

In keeping with their tradition, Day 1 of Lakmé Fashion Week started off with the Gen Next show, which highlights upcoming talent in the country. Gen-Next is a show wherein budding designers are given this platform to display their designs. This season, the Gen Next included Akshat Bansal Deepak Pathak, Sumiran Kabir Sharma and designer duo Saaksha Parekh and Shenali Seema. This being their debut, each label had different inspirations. However, the common theme was to represent strong women.

sumiran Kabir Sharma’s label Anaam debut collection for LFW spoke about Kolkata’s red-light district Songachi. In draped suiting and austere silhouettes, Anaam’s army demanded recognition, identity, and respect. Shenali Sema and Rimzim Lama’s label Untitled Co. focused on the treatment of textiles displaying pastel looks in plissé and intricate threadwork.

Apart from Gen Next, Day 1 also saw several other reputed designers like Ritu Kumar’s Label, the winners of Grazia Young Fashion, Nakita Singh, Sonal Verma, Shweta Kapur, Masaba Gupta and Sanjay Garg.

Label Ritu Kumar presented their spring/summer 2018 collection in keeping with international timelines. The lineup saw versions of tropical prints, white lacy day dresses, tulle skirts and colour-blocked garments that were perfect for a holiday wardrobe. Disha Patani walked down the runway for the designer in a white corset dress covered in florals.

Masaba Gupta delved into the occasion and bridal wear this season with her collection ‘Madagascar’. Nowhere near are the heavy lehengas favored by girls on the wedding day, Gupta’s brides about pre-draped sari hybrids in pop hues with matching bum bags. The colors like bright greens, blues, black and moving into Maroon were quite attractive.

Each of these designers put up a brilliant show with their distinct style reflecting in their designs.

The biggest highlight of the day was Sanjay Garg’s presentation of the Lakmé Absolute Grand Opening for winter/festive 2017. Sanjay Garg’s collection ‘Cloud People’ explored themes of cupids, unearthly spirits and symbols of hope through the use of chikankari and signature weaves. To go with the theme of cupids, Garg thought of using a choir to provide the perfect background track for the length of the show.
