Manushi Chhillar crowned Miss World 2017… A Proud Moment for India

India’s Manushi Chhillar has won the Miss World beauty pageant for the year 2017. The win comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra brought home the coveted title in the year 2000. Andrea Meza, who is Miss Mexico was the first runner-up and was Stephanie Hill from England was the second runner-up. Around 108 women from across the world participated in the beauty pageant.

Manushi, a medical student from Haryana who dreams of being a cardiac surgeon and who took a one-year break from studies to focus on representing India at the international pageant, is the sixth Indian to be crowned Miss World.

She impressed the judges throughout, but her final round answer was the icing on the cake. When asked which profession in the world deserved the highest salary and why, she said, “Since I am very close to my mother, I believe a mother deserves the highest respect. When you talk about salary, I don’t think it’s just about cash, but it’s the love and respect you give to someone. I think my mom has always been my biggest inspiration; mothers sacrifice so much for their kids. It is certain that one profession which deserves the highest salary, the highest respect, and love.”

Aishwarya Rai had bagged the title in 1994, followed by Diana Haydon in 1997, Yukta Mookhey in 1999 and Priyanka Chopra in 2000, the last for India.

Chhillar’s win brings India at level with Venezuela as the countries with most victories in the history of the pageant.

Many people took to twitter to congratulate Ms. Chhillar.
