Art-Deco inspired Ritu Kumar WIFW Finale

 

The Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale by Ritu Kumar concluded the Spring Summer 2013 season of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW). Inspired by the popular Art-Deco movement, the dual collection was a juxtaposition of the old and the new. The finale show was divided into two parts, first was of Label Ritu Kumar brand and second Ritu Kumar Couture. The show started with Audio Visual presentation of the idea that went into making the collection. The opening sequence of Label Ritu Kumar had showcased a heavy usage of motifs of 1930s, 1940s and 1950s Spanish era with garments crafted to offer a modern look. Fabrics like silks in chiffon, crepe and twill were used. Colours like rich deep inks, bold and elegant lines were used.

 

The second half of the show drew inspiration from the Indian Freedom Movement and the colonial era. Rich tapestries, laces, brocades and embroideries were used in the collection. Shammi Kapoor’s song “Baar baar dekho”, “Azeeb dastan hai yeh”, “Babuji dheere chalne” and “Ek Ldaki bheegi bhaagi si”, “Taqdeer se bigdi hui” were some of the evergreen bollywood tracks that were played while models showcased collection that were a mix of heavy couture including lehangas, saris, shararas and gowns. Model-turned actress Esha Gupta walked as a showstopper for the show The collection ended with a regal collection of gold, black and jeweled ensembles reminiscent of the India of the mid 20th century with its Baroque influences and distinctive style of Indo European fashion.
