Fashion retailer Zara sells lungi skirts at Rs 5700! Suneeta Kaul | January 30, 2018, 9:59 PM Okay, here’s a real OMG moment – Spanish fashion retailer Zara has come up with a skirt that bears a striking resemblance to the traditional Indian lungi, and is pricing it at an outrageous $89.90, or approximately Rs 5,700! On its website, Zara has an elaborate descriptor for the lungi skirts: “a flowing skirt with draped detail in the front, featuring front slit detail at the hem and zip fastening in the back hidden along the seam”. Phew! That’s quite a description for the humble lungi. Zara’s lungi skirts are available only in one colour – brown. And in spite of the verbose description, people have been quick to notice that Zara is trying to pull a fast one. Twitter has been particularly severe, making fun of the lungi skirt and calling it out for what it is. Zara is owned by Spain-based Inditex, which is also the largest fashion retailer in the world by sales. Whether it manages to sell the lungis, sorry, skirts, remains to be seen. Next Story
