Naomi Campbell rocks it in a lehenga

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was in India for the 15th edition of Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, which was held in New Delhi on Friday.

She took the stage with India’s best-known supermodel and fitness enthusiast, Milind Soman, and spoke about a host of issues – her love of India, the sari, yoga, racial discrimination, and so forth.

While in India, the 47-year-old reached out to designer Manish Malhotra for her ensemble. Not one to disappoint, Manish Malhotra, who dresses Bollywood stars and celebs, whipped up a red lehenga choli with threadwork for Naomi. The look was finished off with a big bindi.

As is well-known, Naomi is a fan of sarees and lehengas. She has been spotted in saris at various international events. And whenever she is in India, her choice of attire is desi Indian.

Speaking at the summit, Naomi said, “I plan to come back to India next year and the year after. I would like to do a master class with young girls, not just for those who want to be models, but to boost confidence. I would want to share the knowledge that I have learnt and would like to pass it on.”

Naomi’s connection with India goes beyond fashion. She learnt the essence of yoga in Kerala in the year 2012. Though she had attended various classes on yoga in England, she could not connect to the practice. It was only after coming to India and learning it the traditional way in Kerala that she started experiencing the benefits of yoga.

Naomi said she feels peaceful in India and loves the magic here.

Incidentally, Naomi was one of the judges at the Miss World competition in 1994, and she voted for Aishwarya Rai, whom she described as “stunning”. Naomi was just 23 years old at the time.
