Let your ears do the talking – here’s how to choose your earrings

If there’s one fashion accessory that adds life to your face, it is a pair of awesome earrings. But most of us do not know the kind of earrings that will suit our face. You often come across girls wearing chunky danglers that look heavier than them! And sometimes you will see a tall and buxom girl wearing teeny-tiny studs that you have to concentrate hard to find.

It is important to choose the right kind of earring. Otherwise, the look will not come out right. A mistake that most girls make is to wear something that is “in style”, rather than something that suits their face. Here are some tips that will make your ears do the talking.

Facial structure

You need to find out what your face really looks like – is it oval, round, square, heart-shaped?

Round face: If you have a round face, you can go for danglers or long drop-earrings. These will make your face look longer and slimmer. Avoid rings, hoops and studs. Such earrings will just emphasize the roundness of your face, giving you a bad result.

Square face: Gals with wide, square jaws (forehead and jaw line with similar width) need to go for earrings that are medium to long, with rounded edges. Circular earrings and hoop earrings will work well too. Avoid square studs or any kind of earring with a square in it.

Heart-shaped face: If your forehead is wider than your cheeks and the lower half of your face narrows like a heart, then you have a heart-shaped face. Counterbalance your sharp chin with chandelier or tear drop earrings. Earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top will work wonders.

Oval face: This type of a face can pull off any kind of an earring. However, triangular earrings or simple studs will look best on you.

The other factor on which to base your choice is the occasion you are dressing for.

If you are going to the office, it is best to keep your earrings simple. Avoid elaborate and chunky earrings, long danglers, complicated designs and flashy colours.

If you are going to a party, you can freak out a bit, but do not overdo the heavy earring bit; refer to the facial structure to choose your earring. Agreed it is a party and time to have fun, but you don’t want to be remembered as the girl with those purple plastic things dangling from her ears!

If it is a sombre occasion, dress down. That means, simple accessories, including your earrings. Settle for simple studs, or small circular rings.

Lastly, go with your gut feeling. You know your personality best. Wear your earrings accordingly. If you are not the bold and adventurous type, you would feel like a misfit in elaborate chandelier drops, or layered, long danglers. Go for slim and medium-long earrings instead. They will make you look feminine and sexy.

If, on the other hand, you are the type who sets the night on fire, the bolder the earrings, the better!

In the end, wear what makes you comfortable, not what is “in”.
