Apple cider vinegar – the wonder drink

It is a universally acknowledged fact that vinegar has several health benefits. It is an ancient folk remedy, having been used for centuries. The word “vinegar” means “sour wine” in French. The most popular vinegar is apple cider vinegar (ACV), a very popular drink in the west. We, in India, are only now waking up to it.

ACV is made by fermenting the sugars of apples. This turns them into acetic acid, the active ingredient in vinegar. Here are some reasons why you must consume this power-packed drink.

Helps with weight loss

Apple cider vinegar helps to prevention the formation of fat in the body. Several studies suggest that vinegar can increase satiety, enabling you to eat less. Taken along with high-carb meals, ACV can increase the feeling of fullness and make you consume 200-275 fewer calories a day.

Helps with hiccups

The sour taste of apple cider vinegar can over-stimulate the nerves inside the throat. This can make the nerves forget about the need to hiccup. Consuming ACV when you have a bad case of hiccups is very likely to stop them immediately.

Helps relieve sore throat

The bacteria that cause a sore throat are negatively impacted by the acidic nature of ACV. Consumption of ACV, thus, helps to relieve sore throat symptoms. As it is, ACV has natural antibacterial properties.

Apple cider vinegar contains potassium, magnesium and Vitamins A, B1, B2, and E. This combination works to clear your sinuses and get rid of the mucus, thus relieving the stuffy nose feeling.
