Six surprising uses of tea bags

What’s better than a cup of perfectly brewed tea? And with tea bags around, making tea is easier than ever. But do you throw away the tea bag once it is used? Big mistake!

A tea bag has so many uses, you would be surprised.

Check out some of them.

  • They keep your hands fresh

Have you noticed that after having a typical Indian meal, which is generally had with hands, rather than spoons and forks, your hand starts smelling of spices and fish and garlic, and what have you? That’s where tea bags are ‘handy’ – rub your hands with a moist tea bag. It will absorb the odors of the food and leave your hands nice and fresh. You can use any kind of a tea bag, but flavoured tea bags, such as peppermint tea, give best results.

  • They serve as a mouthwash

A tea bag is an ideal mouthwash. Soak an old tea bag in warm water and use it as a mouthwash to freshen your breath. Sage, rosemary, peppermint and spearmint tea bags are the best mouth fresheners.

  • They have medicinal properties

Tea bags can effectively treat topical afflictions such as fever blisters, canker sores, and red eye. All you need to do is apply warm used tea bags on affected spots. The best results can be obtained from herbal tea bags as they have stronger anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • They can be used as compost

You can use tea bags to nurture soil – just put them in the garden and cover them with a thin layer of soil. They will add nutrients to the soil and also deter pests. But do get rid of the staples before you throw them into the compost pile.

  • They eliminate bad smells

By now, you know that tea leaves absorb odors. Thus, tea bags are perfect for absorbing bad smell from the fridge, your carpet, trash can, etc. Keep old used tea bags in the fridge, and watch how the smells reduce. Sprinkle dried tea leaves from your tea bags over rugs and carpets, leave them on for a while, and then vacuum them up. Put used tea bags directly into the trash cans. Your cans will smell far less.

  • They can be used as a hair rinse

Used tea bags can be used as a hair rinse to soften the hair, condition it, and provide a lustrous shine. Just rinse your hair with the water in which tea bags have been boiled. You will be surprised at how effective tea bags are in giving your hair radiance.
