Item numbers are very popular in Bollywood films. They have been around for a long time, and they will continue to entertain us in the years to come as we Indians love song and dance. From Helen to Maliaka Arora to Kareena Kapoor Khan to Sonakshi Sinha to Vidya Balan, heroines have been dancing to item songs.

From the movie Dirty Picture, this song became immensely popular. It featured Vidya Balan, who played a sexy actress in the movie. Her moves became so popular that reality dance shows had many young girls imitating her. This was Vidya’s first role as a sexy siren, and this was her first item number. She did a great job.

  • Kajra re

This song became a huge hit and was even discussed in news programmes. Featuring Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, it is from the movie Bunty aur Babli. Aishwarya’s sexy costume, her dancing and the song itself were much appreciated. It became a very popular song at weddings, and is still fresh in the minds of movie-goers.

Chikni chameli took the nation by storm! It featured in the movie Agneepath. People loved the song, and Katrina Kaif did a great job, dancing with abandon. Her sexy moves and her costume became very popular. The lavni style dance will be remembered for many years, and the song will go down as one of the best dance numbers ever.

  • Munni badnaam hui

When you have somebody as sexy as Malaika Arora dancing to a sexy song, the result can only be awesome. From the movie Dabangg, it is based on a folk tune. But it was not an existing song, revamped by the music director. The lyrics were written afresh by Lalit Pandit.

  • Sheela ki jawani

Who can forget Sheela ki jawani? The song is filmed on Katrina Kaif, and it features in the movie Tees Maar Khan. While the movie did not do well at the box office, the song became immensely popular, and Katrina was much appreciated for her dance.
