Five memorable performances of Shahid Kapoor

Shahid Kapur started his film career with Ishq Vishq (2003), in which he played a college boy. With cute, chocolate boy looks, he appealed to the audiences, though it was not a great movie. Born to actors Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azim, Shahid has experimented with several kinds of roles.

Here we take a look at five his most memorable performances.

  • Jab We Met (2007)

This movie literally shot Shahid to stardom. It remains one of his most-loved films. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Shahid shared the screen space with Kareena Kapoor, who stole the show with her performance. However, Shahid also got a lot of praise for playing a disturbed young man, who is the scion of a leading business family. His chemistry with Kareena was simply fantastic. He was honoured with the Stardust award for best actor and Editor’s Choice award as well.

  • Kaminey (2009)

This was another blockbuster performance of Shahid Kapoor, who put his heart and soul into playing a double role in this movie. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, Shahid truly emerged as an actor in this film. Paired with Priyanka Chopra, Shahid was praised by critics for his acting skills. A thriller set in the backdrop of Mumbai’s underworld, the film was loved by one and all.

  • Teri Meri Kahani (2012)

This film was directed by Kunal Kohli, and told the story of three distinct time periods. The story revolves around true love spanning generations, but it is not a reincarnation story. Shahid and Priyanka made a great pair, and the chemistry was good. The plot covered the lovers’ story in pre-Independence India, in the sixties, and in the year 2012. In each story, the lovers face obstacles and there are misunderstandings, but they unite in spite of everything. Shahid’s role as the flirtatious Javed of pre-Independent India, who falls for Aradhana (Priyanka Chopra), was the highlight of the film.

  • Haider (2014)

This was another Vishal Bhardwaj venture, with Shahid again playing a disturbed young Kashmiri boy, whose mother has an affair with her brother-in-law. Haider is undoubtedly Shahid Kapoor’s best performance ever in his career so far. He even went bald for this movie. The critically acclaimed movie had the Kashmir unrest as its backdrop. It was based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The movie also starred Tabu, Irrfan Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon, all of whom put it sterling performances.

  • Udta Punjab (2016)

Udta Punjab tackled the subject of the drug menace in Punjab. Along with Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor put in an excellent performance as a drug-addicted musician. The film had several sub-plots, and Shahid and Alia both came up with awesome performances. It was an off-beat film with a high emotional connect.
