Five memorable performances of Vidya Balan

When we talk about a strong female character in Hindi movies, the name that automatically comes to mind is Vidya Balan. She is one of the finest actors in the country who has put in some great performances in so many films. She has transformed the role of a woman in a Hindi movie, refusing to play second fiddle to anyone. Her talent is indisputable.

Here are some of her memorable performances:

  • Parineeta

This was Vidya Balan’s debut Hindi movie, and she did a great job in it. She played the role of Lalita, who has a childhood friend, Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan). The two are in love, but not openly. Shekhar’s father is a scheming man, who plots to keep them apart. Another misunderstanding is created by the entry of Girish (Sanjay Dutt), who supports Lalita’s family in their hour of need. Eventually, Shekhar’s love defies his father’s greed and he goes back to Lalita. Vidya Balan was simply outstanding in the movie.

  • Dirty Picture

Vidya Balan sizzled in the movie, as she played the reel life role of real life controversial southern actress Silk Smitha. Her curves were on full display, as she effortlessly slipped into the role of an erotic woman. The movie won her the National Award.

  • Ishqiya

Ishqiya saw Vidya Balan play the role of Krishna Verma, the wife of a ganglord. She convinces her husband (Adil Hussain) to surrender, but he is killed in a gas explosion. Meanwhile, two goons escape from their criminal boss, and come to seek refuge in the house of Krishna’s husband. They realize he is dead and meet his widow. A series of plots and sub-plots then begin to unravel. The film definitely belonged to Vidya.

 

  • Kahaani

This was a thriller, with many twists and turns, Vidya Balan put in the performance of a lifetime, playing a woman who has come to India to look for her missing husband. She gets embroiled in a mess, but ultimately outwits everyone. Vidya will, forever, be remembered for this role.

  • Bhool Bhulaiya

This was a movie with several complicated twists and turns, and supernatural occurrences. Vidya Balan is Anvi in this movie, the wide of Siddharth (Shiney Ahuja). The couple comes back from the US to stay at their ancestral place, which is believed to be haunted. Is it so, or not forms the main plot of the story. Vidya Balan’s performance as a woman possessed by the ghost of a dancer from an earlier time is a treat for the eyes.
