Padman trailer out: Akshay Kumar tuns out to be superhero once again

The wait has finally come to an end! The makers of the Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starrer ‘PadMan’ have released their first official trailer.

After Toilet Ek Prem Katha, he is now back with PadMan. As the Padman trailer was revealed this morning, one thing is clear — it is going to normalize the discussion around menstrual hygiene.

The trailer begins with a narration from Amitabh Bachchan who calls PadMan India’s answer to the superheroes of the US. Akshay has the idea to make sanitary napkins for women and is even shown trying some on in a pink underwear himself. He pitches the idea to his sisters and his wife (Radhika Apte), who all feels ashamed to even discuss the sanitary health with their brother and husband respectively.

Embarrassed by his noble pursuits, his wife leaves him and the people of his village shun him. That is until hope walks back into his life in the form of a social worker (Sonam Kapoor) who helps him realize his dreams.

The 2.25-minute clip has a tad of tongue and cheek humor but predominantly the film evokes thought and has an inspirational feel to it. Shot majorly in the backdrop of a village, the film will chronicle his journey to attaining international stardom.

Based on the true story of Arunachalam Muruganantham -the man who invented low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas, this film is directed by R. Balki.

The film is to be released on 26 January 2018.
