Seven memorable performances of Salman Khan

Salman Khan is one of the best-loved personalities of Bollywood. Even though he is controversial in some ways, yet his fan following has never dipped. People love him. It is as simple as that. The fact that he has been in many relationships, but has never taken any of them to the next level seems to make women love him even more! There are critics who say he is a star, no doubt, but his acting is not great. Regardless, he is hugely popular.

Here are some of his most memorable performances.

  • Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989)

This romantic film was the beginning of Salman Khan’s career as a leading man. Maine Pyaar Kiya was a stepping stone for many more romantic characters, and the screen name, Prem. Salman’s sweet, innocent and romantic look was loved and appreciated greatly. The movie details the difficulties faced by him to win his love in the face of opposition from his father and the girl’s father. His love interest was played by Bhagyashree.

  • Hum Aapke hain Kaun (1994)

This was another movie in which Salman played a chocolate boy hero. It was the biggest hit of its time, winning five Filmfare awards and one National Award. Salman was again Prem, the lover boy, while Madhuri Dixit played the female protagonist. Everybody loved this movie full of wedding scenes, family values and sacrifices made by the protagonists.

  • Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

This is considered one of Salman Khan’s best performances. He played the role of Sameer, a musician who comes to India to learn music. He falls for Aishwarya Rai, but, as happens frequently in Hindi films, the match is opposed by the girl’s father. She gets married to Ajay Devgn, but he helps her search for him. In the end, however, she goes back to Devgn.It was a cult movie, with standout performances by all the leading actors. A brilliant score was another attraction.

  • Dabangg (2010)

Salman went on to become a household sensation, thanks to this movie. Already a huge star, he became even bigger, playing the role of police inspector Chulbul Pandey, who is not morally very upright. The film introduced Sonakhshi Sinha, who also became a sensation. A story of love and revenge, the film also starred Arbaaz Khan, Salman’s real-life brother, Vinod Khanna and Dimple in important roles. It was declared a blockbuster, raking in huge profits.

  • Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

This was India’s James Bond movie. Salman plays a RAW agent, who is sent on a mission to the UK, where he meets Katrina Kaif, and falls in love with her. She, however, turns out to be an ISI agent, and trouble begins. A fast-paced spy thriller, it tried to convey the message of peace between India and Pakistan. Salman was once again hailed as one of the greatest entertainers Bollywood has ever seen.

  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)

This was an emotional drama, featuring a mute, six-year-old Pakistani girl, who is separated from her mother when the two are on their way back to Pakistan in a train. Salman, an ardent devotee of Hanuman, sees her and makes it his mission to re-unite her with her family in Pakistan. This was yet another movie that has peace between India and Pakistan as an underlying theme. As is usual with Salman Khan movies, it was a great commercial success.

  • Sultan (2016)

This was a romantic sports drama, with Salman pairing with Anushka Sharma. The film tells the story of a Haryanvi wrestler, whose wife, Anushka, is also a wrestler. However, she is forced to give up her dream when she becomes pregnant. Salman goes from success to success, but becomes arrogant and selfish in the process. How they overcome the rift, and how Salman makes a comeback to the sport forms the rest of the story. It turned out to be yet another hugely successful movie.
