So, is there nepotism in Bollywood? Part II

As previously discussed in this space, nepotism in Bollywood is an established reality. The ones who took advantage of it will be the last people to admit as much! Seriously, all we expect from them is an acknowledgment of the fact. We do not grudge them their easy entry into Hindi films, but to turn around and claim that the concept doesn’t exist is rather galling.

We have already taken a look at male star kids who might not have made it to their first film had they not had famous parentage. Now we look at their female counterparts.

Athiya Shetty

Athiya who, some of you might ask. Yes, in spite of acting in the Nikhil Advani-directed movie, Hero, opposite Sooraj Pancholi (another star son, by the way), she is still not very well-known. Daughter of Suniel Shetty, her debut movie was produced by none other than Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai. Even they could not salvage the film, however. But the point is, she got a chance which many others would never dream of getting, thanks to Daddy.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt? But she is a good actress, just check her performance in Udta Punjab, you might say. And you would be right. Yes, indeed, Alia is an actress of some calibre, but just before she signed up her debut movie, Student of the Year, she too was an overweight, chubby girl. However, when you are the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, factors like weight do not come in the way! She not only got time to lose the excess kilos, she also waltzed into Karan Johar’s film, thanks to Daddy.

Shraddha Kapoor

Daughter of comic-villain Shakti Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor’s debut movie, Aashiqui 2, did rather well at the box office. She did a fairly decent job in the movie, but her subsequent films have not gone down well with the masses. Granted that she is quite good looking, but do her performances warrant repeat roles? She, however, has gone on to bag a number of good projects, thanks to Daddy.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha is yet another star kid who was chubby and overweight before she did her first film, Dabangg. Daughter of Shatrugan Sinha, she was hardly the Hindi film heroine type. Yes, she looks very beautiful now, and has that Oriental quality that is quite appealing, but how many overweight girls get a chance to star opposite Salman Khan in their debut movie? Sonakshi did, thanks to Daddy.

Sonam Kapoor

Yes, you got it, Sonam Kapoor too was overweight and unsuitable for a leading role in Hindi films. Daughter of Anil Kapoor, Sonam had to lose a lot of weight before she could take up Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Saawariya, opposite Ranbir Kapoor, yet another (you guessed it right!) star son. The film failed at the box office, but Sonam kept getting good offers, thanks to Daddy.
