Dubai is a perfect holiday destination for those who love the sun and the sands. The largest and the most populous city of the UAE, it is located on the south-east coast of the Persian Gulf. It is one of the seven emirates of the UAE. It is very popular with Indians, who love to shop around in this mega city of high-rises and shopping malls.

Reaching Dubai

You can reach Dubai from many cities of India, but it is easier to reach from the southern cities, such as Kochi and Trivandrum. The Dubai International Airport is the only airport of the city. It is the busiest airport of UAE. The national airline of Dubai is Emirates, with the other airlines being FlyDubai and Etihad.

If you want to drive into Dubai, the only way you can do so is through Oman.

When to go

Dubai is a desert city, and as you can guess, it is quite hot. So, avoid the peak summer. You can go between November and March. The winter months are the peak tourist season, with crowds everywhere.

Tourist attractions you must visit

Dubai is full of tourist attractions, and there is a lot to do and many places to see. Here’s a list of some of them.

Burj Khalifa

This is the most famous landmark of Dubai. It is the world’s tallest building, with a height of 829.8 meters. There is an observation deck on the 124th floor from where you can view the rest of the city and take awesome pictures.

Dubai Mall

Dubai Mall is one of the most popular malls of the world. You can buy anything under the sun here. You can enter the Burj Khalifa building from here. There is plenty to do. You can entertain yourself all day here. There is an ice-skating rink, gaming zones and cinemas, and also special events, music shows, fashion shows, etc.

The Dubai Fountain

The Dubai Fountain is the world’s largest dancing fountain. It is at the base of the Burj Khalifa building. You can enjoy the sight of water jets shooting as high as 500 feet, or 50 storeys! It is 900 feet long and has five circles and two central arcs.

Wild Wadi Water Park

The Wild Wadi Water Park is an outdoor water park. It has a heated/cooled wave pool, multiple water slides and two artificial surfing machines. The water park has two gift shops, three restaurants and two snack stands.

Sampling the local cuisine

You can eat many types of non-vegetarian dishes. You can try the Shawarma, which is meat served in a wrap. The local people of Dubai also eat camel meat. If you don’t mind trying new things, you can find it anywhere in Dubai.

What to shop for

Dubai is always in shopping mode. Shopping is celebrated as if it were an important ritual. There are so many malls and boutiques to choose from — The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, WAFI Mall, etc.
